日本の仏教行事4月8日はお釈迦様の誕生日とされていて、日本各地の寺では灌仏会（かんぶつえ）「花まつり」の仏教行事が行われました。
灌仏会（かんぶつえ）「花まつり」では「甘茶」を仏像に注ぎかけて参拝します。「花まつり」の名前通りお堂の中や外にはたくさんの花を飾ります。
その他に「稚児行列（ちごぎょうれつ）なども行われます。稚児行列とは、子供の無病息災や健やかな成長を願って特別な着物を着て、化粧をした子供たちが街中を歩く日本の伝統行事です。
