It is a type of Obon offering.

These are vehicle-shaped dolls used to transport the souls of the deceased between this world and the next.

Legs are attached to eggplants or cucumbers to make horses or cows.

This is the Japan Ai Blog, a Japanese culture information site.

Thank you for visiting today.

The topic is "Obon and Bon Dancing.

In many parts of Japan, Obon is celebrated from August 13th to 16th.

The dates vary depending on the region.

In the Tokyo area, it was July 13-16.

Obon is believed to be the return of ancestors, and people visit the graves of their ancestors, and at home, people cook a feast to entertain their ancestors and offer it to the Buddhist altar.

One of the events of Obon is "Bon Odori" (Bon dance).

Bon Odori is a dedication to comfort the spirits.

The way of Bon Festival, types of Bon Odori, and music for Bon Odori vary from region to region.

In Japan, events such as Bon Odori were cancelled until last year due to measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This year, for the first time in three years, we are having a summer without restrictions from the government.

However, due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Japan since around July, some areas have abruptly canceled "Bon Odori" dances.

We hope that through this Japanese event, you will deepen your understanding of Japan.
